IT’S ONLY TEMPORARY (2023-2024)

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, forcing millions of people to leave their homes. I was one of them. What was initially meant to be temporary has now lasted for years, changing the way I understand the idea of home.
In the beginning, I found it difficult to fully settle into a new place. Even small decisions, like buying a houseplant, felt uncertain, as if they implied a permanence I was not ready to accept. This experience led me to reflect on how others in a similar situation adapt to new environments.

Its Only Temporary explores the living spaces of Ukrainians who relocated to Germany. During our meetings, participants shared their experiences of leaving Ukraine. These exchanges shaped the project and made the process feel almost therapeutic.
I became interested in how people approach their temporary homes differently. The project reflects on how the concept of home shifts under conditions of displacement. It looks at home not as a fixed place, but as something that is continuously redefined through personal experience.
